Our Story and Cause
ChangiVille was started by a Singaporean gentleman, William Chua in 2007.
"When I first came to Phnom Penh, I was given an opportunity to manage a 4 storeys unit, the idea of a social enterprise benefiting the local people struck me. The guesthouse will be a harmonious meeting and interactive venue between the foreign guests and locals. ChangiVille aims to provide job opportunities and training."
At ChangiVille, young girls saved from indecent trades are taught housekeeping and cooking skills before their job placements at guesthouses. Revenue from ChangiVille provides a stable source of income for these girls who work as housekeepers and also funds needed to run the training centre.
For 3 days in a week, children from the Riverside Kids Organisation visit ChangiVille for their English lessons by a local Cambodian teacher or a volunteer staying at the guesthouse. They are also taught basic computer literacy. Guests can also purchase the handicrafts made by the Riverside Kids Organisation at the guesthouse.
To Ismael and Dara who look after the guesthouse, ChangiVille treats everyone on an equal footing. They welcome their foreign guests with their warm hearts and are more than happy to help their country folks through sharing of knowledge and skills.
Today, ChangiVille is a place of love and hope for many of the local children and young female.
